Friday night we took to the track of Madison International Speedway with the Midwest Dash Series for their season opener. A good showing of cars came to try their hand, 22 of them. And we ran double feature.
Day started out good. Car was running and handling good. Needed a little more. Good note, in qualifying, I was quicker then last year. Over all, I qualified 6th fastest with a 21.615.
At the start of the first feature, there was an issue and as we were slowing down, I veered left and hit Mark English sending both of us to the infield. I went into the pits and the crew did what they could to unjam the left rear tire. They got me back out on the track as they were taking the green but another issue happened. I was able to come in at the tail. When we took the green, I did what I could and started making my way to the front. Had a couple of good battles along the way. After all said and done, I finished 8th.
Second feature, I started out inside 3rd row. And because we were told, stay in your row till your out of turn 2, the inside row fell back as a car in front of me could not get going. But as soon as I could, I made my way around and charged the best I could to the front. Couple more good battles as I did what I could. Coming to the checker, I ended up crossing in 5th place.
Saturday we make the trip to State Park Speedway for their season opener. Come to find out, The Midwest Trucks and the super lates where there also. I ran with the Mini Mod class. Went out to test out the track and push what I could do. 2nd practice we made adjustments and pushed it a little harder.
With the threat of rain, they did change the schedule some. So we did not qualify when we was set to. But the rain did hold off and we qualified. Before hand, took a good swing with the setup and did what we could. Turned out, it was a good choice. Qualified 3rd fastest with a 15.884. just under a tenth slower than the top guy. So 3rd out of 14 of us was not bad. Real happy with how it went.
Heat race time, I just could not get going like I did in qualifying. Car pushed more again and could not go 3 wide unless it was the outside. And I was on the inside row. So I fell back then tried to make a run. It was to late. Finished 5th out of 7.
Feature time, same thing. Once I got to the outside, I did what I could. Same thing, got boxed in for a bit a bit and finally got going the best I could, but finished 8th.
I had a great time and enjoyed the racing at a different track. Got to talk to a few of the drivers and staff there and they were all welcoming.
I sure can’t thank everyone enough for all the help over the weekend. Heather, Rebecca, Ken, James, Lisa, and Collin. Also can’t thank our Sponsors enough for the support also this year. This will be a good year and we will continue to enjoy racing.
